Report from Reform Immigration for America National Summit |
by Tom Cordaro, Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace
Note: Tom attended this national summit in early June and sent us this short report.
Just wanted to give a quick report on my participation in the Reform
Immigration for America national summit. Overall I was very impressed by
both the breadth and depth of the coalition making up this campaign and
in the sophistication and resources they have been able to put together
for the effort. They were hoping for 350 local organizers from across the
country to come to D.C. They got over 700! Check out their website at www.reformimmigrationforamerica.org.

During our visit to Capitol Hill, the campaign was able to generate over
80,000 faxes and over 20,000 e-mails and phone calls to Congress. Even
seasoned organizers thought the effort was very impressive. Some of the
main players in the effort include: ACORN, AFL-CIO, Catholic Social
Service, Center for American Progress, LA Voice PICO, National Council of
La Raza, SEIU, Oblates JPIC Office, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas,
Sisters of St. Francis, Sojourners, Sisters of the Presentation and many,
many more.
I would urge PCUSA to formally endorse this campaign. go to:
